Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar For a richer flavor, use brown sugar instead.
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Substitute almond extract for a different flavor.
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking pan.
  • Cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla.
  • Combine the flour, baking powder, and salt in another bowl.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with milk, and mix until just combined.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
  • Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Allow to cool before serving.

Notes

You can add chocolate chips or nuts for extra texture. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
