Ingredients

Baking

  • 1 box white cake mix Follow package instructions
  • Eggs and oil as required by the cake mix instructions

Liquids

  • 3 cups water For cake and jello prep as directed

Jello flavors

  • 1 box assorted flavored jello (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet) — one packet per color

Toppings

  • 1 cup whipped cream or Cool Whip For topping

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven and prepare the white cake mix according to the package instructions, adding eggs and oil as required; bake in a 9x13 inch pan and let cool.
  • Once the cake is cool, use a fork to poke holes evenly across the surface so each bite can hold jello.
  • Prepare each jello flavor per package instructions, using 1 cup of boiling water and 1 cup of cold water for each packet.

Assembly

  • Carefully pour small amounts of each prepared jello into the holes, alternating colors to create a rainbow effect.
  • Refrigerate the cake until the jello is fully set, usually about 4 hours.
  • When set, spread 1 cup whipped cream or Cool Whip over the top, slice, and serve.

Notes

Ensure cake is completely cool before poking holes to maintain structure. Pour jello slowly to avoid overflow and maintain distinct colors. Chill for at least 4 hours or longer in a warm fridge to ensure firmness. Use a serrated knife cooled under warm water for clean slicing. Store covered in the fridge for up to 3 days; add topping just before serving for best texture.
