For the Toppings

  • 1 container whipped topping Use any brand you prefer.
  • to taste fresh fruits for topping Optional topping, could include strawberries, blueberries, etc.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven according to the cake mix instructions and prepare a baking pan as directed.
  • Mix the cake batter using the cake mix, 3 eggs, and 1 cup of water, then pour into the pan.
  • Bake until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, then cool for about 15 minutes.

Poking and Adding Jello

  • Use the end of a wooden spoon to poke holes all over the top of the slightly cooled cake.
  • Dissolve the Jello in 1 cup of boiling water, add 1 cup of cold water, then pour the mixture over the cake so it seeps into the holes.
  • Refrigerate for at least 2 hours, top with whipped topping and fresh fruits if desired, then slice and serve.

Notes

Cool the cake about 15 minutes before poking so holes form without collapsing. Pour the Jello slowly to help it soak into the holes. Chill for at least 2 hours; overnight gives the best flavor. Store covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
