Ingredients
  

  • 7 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 1/4 teaspoon red food coloring gel
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup red sanding sugar
  • 18 Hershey’s Kisses (classic or white chocolate)

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a medium bowl, mix the butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and creamy.
  • Add the egg yolk, vanilla, and red food coloring and stir until fully blended.
  • Sift in the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Stir just until a soft dough forms.
  • Scoop 1-tablespoon-sized balls, roll them in red sanding sugar, and place them on the prepared sheet.
  • Bake for 10 minutes or until puffed and lightly set.
  • Press a Hershey’s Kiss into the center of each cookie right after baking. Cool for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

Make them with classic milk chocolate kisses or swap for white chocolate to taste like red velvet cupcakes with frosting. Don’t skip the sanding sugar — it’s what gives them that signature sparkle!
