Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups orzo pasta traditional or whole-wheat
  • 3 tbsp butter or olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 4 cups chicken or vegetable broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream or half-and-half
  • 1 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese for best flavor
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • Optional: lemon zest, spinach, or peas for freshness

Instructions
 

  • Melt butter or heat olive oil in a large skillet, then sauté minced garlic for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  • Add orzo and lightly toast for 2-3 minutes to enhance flavor.
  • Pour in broth, bring to a simmer, and cook for 8-10 minutes until orzo is tender.
  • Lower heat and mix in cream and Parmesan, stirring until the sauce thickens.
  • Adjust seasoning with salt, pepper, or lemon zest, and add spinach or peas if desired.
  • Serve in bowls topped with extra Parmesan or fresh herbs.

Notes

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 2-3 days. Reheat gently on the stovetop with a splash of broth or cream; avoid prolonged microwaving. Variations include spinach-mushroom, lemon-garlic, vegan cashew cream, or holiday roasted red pepper. For optimal flavor and texture, use freshly grated Parmesan.
