Ingredients

  • 1 gallon apple cider
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tsp whole allspice
  • 3 tsp whole cloves
  • 4 cinnamon sticks
  • 2 dashes ground nutmeg
  • 1 orange halved
  • Cheesecloth or coffee filter
  • Butcher’s twine

Instructions

  • 1. Pour apple cider into the slow cooker and stir in brown sugar.
  • 2. Place allspice, cloves, cinnamon, and nutmeg into a coffee filter or cheesecloth. Tie securely with butcher’s twine.
  • 3. Add the spice bundle to the cider.
  • 4. Place halved orange, cut side down, into the slow cooker.
  • 5. Cover and heat on LOW for 3–4 hours, or HIGH for 1–2 hours.
  • 6. Serve warm, keeping the spices and orange in while serving.

Notes

Optional: Add 3–4 slices of fresh ginger for extra spice.
For a boozy version, add 1 oz rum, brandy, or bourbon to each serving.
To avoid over-spicing, remove the spice bundle after 2–3 hours if desired.
