- 1 gallon apple cider
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 2 tsp whole allspice
- 3 tsp whole cloves
- 4 cinnamon sticks
- 2 dashes ground nutmeg
- 1 orange halved
- Cheesecloth or coffee filter
- Butcher’s twine
1. Pour apple cider into the slow cooker and stir in brown sugar.
2. Place allspice, cloves, cinnamon, and nutmeg into a coffee filter or cheesecloth. Tie securely with butcher’s twine.
3. Add the spice bundle to the cider.
4. Place halved orange, cut side down, into the slow cooker.
5. Cover and heat on LOW for 3–4 hours, or HIGH for 1–2 hours.
6. Serve warm, keeping the spices and orange in while serving.
Optional: Add 3–4 slices of fresh ginger for extra spice.
For a boozy version, add 1 oz rum, brandy, or bourbon to each serving.
To avoid over-spicing, remove the spice bundle after 2–3 hours if desired.
