Cake

Garnish

  • 1/2 cup chocolate shavings (for garnish)

Preparation

  • Prepare the chocolate pudding according to the package instructions and allow it to chill in the refrigerator.
  • If making homemade whipped cream, in a mixing bowl, combine the heavy whipping cream and vanilla extract. Whip with an electric mixer until soft peaks form.
  • Cut the chocolate cake into small cubes or crumbles.

Layering

  • In a trifle dish or individual serving glasses, begin layering by starting with a layer of chocolate pudding at the bottom.
  • Add a layer of crumbled chocolate cake over the pudding, then spoon a layer of whipped cream on top of the cake.
  • Repeat the layers (pudding, cake, whipped cream) until all ingredients are used, typically 2-3 layers depending on the depth of your dish.
  • Finish with a generous layer of whipped cream on top, garnish with chocolate shavings, and refrigerate for at least an hour before serving to let the flavors meld together.

Notes
